About Aura

Re-established in 2014, Aura Coffee offers specialty beverages, delicious teas, real fruit smoothies, handmade treats, and love and support for all.

Located across the street from the University of North Texas, we are proud to serve students, professors, staff and the community of Denton. We try our best to remain affordable, accessible, inclusive and inviting, and to celebrate the diverse and beautiful community of which we are honored to be a part.

OUR STORY

Aura Coffee began in 2014, picking up where Big Mike's left off. Mike sold the business to now-owner Kim McKibben, as he knew she would continue the coffee tradition rather than convert the building into a bar. We are proud to be woman-owned, locally-owned, and queer-run.

Counter Culture

We are proud to serve coffee from Counter Culture, roasters who value the quality and sustainability of their product. Counter Culture provides our baristas with expert training, offering classes at their Dallas campus. We believe in Counter Culture because their business model pays farmers more than the fair trade minimum for their product. These partnerships ensure ethical practices for the farmers and laborers.

Ginger Boy's Treats and More

Ginger Boys got their start in 2020 primarily making their own jams, jellies, and treats sold at the Denton Community Market and other pop-up events. Now, they also serve Latin-inspired lunch goodies on weekdays from 11:00am to 3:00pm at Aura during the school year, as well as stock our pastry case with homemade treats year-round.

Old Bear Vintage

Old Bear Vintage is a women-owned, queer-owned vintage resale business that sources clothing from rag houses and fellow resellers, rather than thrift shops. We and have a blast collaborating with them for events and special limited menus.
